1970s
A favorite of the San Francisco cabaret music scene, Faye Carol made musical history by being the first to augment the traditional vocal & piano sound to include the upright bass & drums. She was also one of the first Black artists in the genre, being awarded Cabaret Gold Awards in 1978, 1983, and 1984. Faye Carol developed an extensive cabaret repertoire while simultaneously engaging listeners with songs from her gospel, R&B, soul, blues, and jazz roots. Her all inclusive approach touched the hearts of many and earned her a reputation for outstanding arrangements and flawless execution of whatever she chose to sing. In 1977, she toured the West Coast with Marvin Gaye, Melba Moore, & L.T.D.
